How to Share Your WiFi Password with Someone Nearby

You don't have to read out a complicated password anymore. Here's how to share your WiFi the easy way — often with just a tap or a QR code scan.

iPhone to iPhone (Easiest Method)

Both people need to have each other saved as a contact for this to work automatically.

Make sure WiFi and Bluetooth are on for both phones

Both iPhones need to be unlocked and near each other.

The guest goes to Settings → WiFi and taps your network

They don't need to type the password — just tap the network name.

A popup appears on YOUR iPhone — tap Share Password

This sends your password wirelessly to their phone. They're connected automatically.

Share WiFi on Android

Go to Settings → WiFi

Open Settings and tap WiFi or Connections depending on your Android model.

Tap the network you're connected to, then tap Share

Most Android phones will display a QR code that anyone can scan to join instantly.

The other person scans the QR code with their camera

They tap the link that appears and are connected automatically — no password required.

Share WiFi from a Mac

Click the WiFi icon in the menu bar, then click your network name

A Share option appears if your Mac supports it. If not, use the steps below to find the password.

Or go to System Settings → WiFi and click the info button next to your network

Click the eye icon next to the password field to reveal it. You can then share it manually.

Find Your WiFi Password (If You Need to Type It)

On iPhone:

Go to Settings → WiFi and tap the ⓘ next to your network

Tap the password field — it will prompt for Face ID or your passcode.

Authenticate and the password will be revealed

You can tap to copy it and share it however you like.

On Windows:

Open Network & Internet Settings from the taskbar WiFi icon

Click the WiFi icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

Click Network and Sharing Center, then click your WiFi name

A status window opens. Click Wireless Properties, then the Security tab.

Check Show characters to reveal the password

The Network security key field will show your full WiFi password.
