How to Transfer Photos from iPhone to Computer

5 min read  ·  Works with Windows PC and Mac

Moving photos from your iPhone to your computer is easier than most people think. Here are three methods — pick the one that works best for you.

Method 1 — USB Cable (Fastest, Best Quality)

On a Mac:

1

Plug your iPhone into your Mac with a USB cable

Use the charging cable that came with your iPhone.

2

Unlock your iPhone and tap Trust if prompted

A message will ask if you trust this computer. Tap Trust and enter your passcode.

3

Open the Photos app on your Mac

Your iPhone will appear automatically in the left sidebar under Devices.

4

Click Import All New Photos

Or select specific photos and click Import Selected. They'll save to your Mac's Photos library.

On a Windows PC:

1

Plug your iPhone in and tap Trust if prompted

Connect with the USB cable and unlock your phone. Tap Trust when the prompt appears.

2

Open File Explorer

Press the Windows key + E, or click the folder icon in your taskbar.

3

Find your iPhone under This PC

It will appear as a device in the left sidebar of File Explorer.

4

Navigate to Internal Storage → DCIM

Open the DCIM folder — your photos are inside. Copy and paste them to any folder on your computer.

Method 2 — iCloud (Wireless, Automatic)

1

On your iPhone, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Photos

Tap your name at the top of Settings to reach the iCloud settings area.

2

Turn on Sync this iPhone

Your photos will begin uploading to iCloud. This requires a WiFi connection.

3

Access them on your computer

On a Mac, open the Photos app — they sync automatically. On a PC, download iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store.

Method 3 — AirDrop (Mac Only, No Cable Needed)

1

Select the photos you want on your iPhone

Open Photos, tap Select, and tap each photo you want to send.

2

Tap the Share button and choose AirDrop

The Share button looks like a box with an arrow pointing up. Select your Mac from the list of nearby devices.

3

Accept on your Mac

A notification will appear on your Mac. Click Accept — the photos save to your Downloads folder.

Tips:
• iCloud gives you 5GB free — upgrade if you have lots of photos
• USB is the best option if you're moving a large number of photos at once
• Photos transferred via USB keep full original quality
